The heaviest single component of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) carried under this project weighs as much as 108 tonnes, placing enormous demands on the project team's overall coordination capability. Several months before the cargo was loaded aboard Chipolbrok’s M/V PADEREWSKI, the project team had already begun designing the European segment of the transport solution. Fully leveraging its localized service advantages, the team travelled to Germany and Austria to conduct on-site route surveys, identifying and eliminating potential risks in advance. At the same time, the team assessed, one by one, the road regulations, bridge load-bearing capacities, transport permit processing lead times, transport risks and on-site operating conditions of every country along the route, and developed the critical end-to-end European solution: ship by sea to the Port of Antwerp in Belgium, transfer by heavy-lift barge to Regensburg in Germany, and then transport by road. The equipment arrived successfully at the project site in Austria in July.
It will subsequently be used in the tunnel construction of the Imst-Haiming pumped storage power station in Austria, helping to meet the clean electricity needs of around 60,000 local households.
