On August 28, Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company (Chipolbrok) officially named two new 38,000 DWT bow-bridge multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels WYSPIAŃSKI and CHEŁMOŃSKI at ZPMC Qidong Marine Engineering. This marks a new advancement for Chipolbrok in the construction of an advanced, diversified and low-carbon intelligent fleet.
The new vessels measure 182 meters in length overall, 30 meters in breadth, and 17 meters in depth, with a design draft of 9.8 meters, a service speed of 14.5 knots, and a ladendraft of 11.10 meters. Designed with a bow-bridge,the new vessels featureamassive, unobstructeddeck area equivalent to 11 standard basketball courts, and cancarry 1.5 times more standard-sized wind turbine blades than Chipolbrok's existing 30,000DWTvessels. The vessels alsofeature two cargo holds, with Hold No. 1 measuring 76.80 meters in length and 25.00 meters in width, setting a new record for hold capacity in Chipolbrok's fleet. Additionally, Hold No. 1 is equipped with six removable hatch covers, providing ample space for loading oversized andoverweightcargoes. Four tiers of movable tween decks in the cargo holds allow for flexible stowage of various cargo sizes and adaptable compartmentalization. The entire hatch cover of hold No. 1 can be opened to accommodate extra-tall cargo in open-hold configuration.
In terms of lifting capacity, the new vessels are equipped with three 350-ton electric cranewith a dual-crane tandem lifting capacity of 700 tons, designed to meet the transport needs for large and overweight equipment and elevate the heavy-lift capabilities of Chipolbrok’sfleet to a new level.The cranes incorporate potential energy recovery technology, which captures potential energy during cargo unloading and stores it in a 1,000 kWh power battery pack. This stored energy is then fed back to support the power system during peak operations, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
During voyages, the vessels are designed with fuel-efficient main engines equipped with shaft generators. As the main engine operates, it drives the shaft generator to work synchronously. The generated electricity can meet all the power demands of the vessel's accommodation and equipment, eliminating the need to run traditional generator diesel engines. This reduces fuel consumption and ensures energy conservation and emission reduction are implemented on every single voyage.
The overall design of the new vessel type fully integrates green and low-carbon concepts. Equipped with a pre-swirl duct, rudder bulb, and shore power connection, the vessels can achieve "zero emissions" while berthed by utilizing shore power. Their Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets Phase 3 requirements, and NOx emissions comply with Tier III standards, aligning with the development of international maritime carbon tax compliance systems. This demonstrates Chipolbrok's active exploration and sense of responsibility in the field of shipping decarbonization. A total of four vessels are planned for this series, with two currently under construction. The sister ships are named after the Polish artistic masters Stanisław Wyspiański and Józef Chełmoński. Wyspiański, a polymath in Polish cultural history, excelled across drama, poetry, painting, and architecture, while Chełmoński was renowned for his realistic landscape paintings. Naming these heavy-lift vessels after Polish artistic masters not only infuses them with profound cultural significance but also carries the sincere friendship of Chinese-Polish cooperation and mutual learning between civilizations.
