A tunnel boring machine(TBM) has been successfully delivered from China to its construction site in Austria through an end-to-end logistics solution provided by Chipolbrok and its Central and Eastern Europe logistics platform, POLBROK.
The shipment totaled more than 8,200 cubic meters, including oversized components weighing up to 108 tonnes and measuring 6.6 meters in width.
Transporting oversized and overweight cargo across Europe requires careful planning due to strict regulations, complex permitting procedures, and cross-border coordination. Working closely with partners throughout Europe, the Polbrok team spent nearly three months evaluating different transport options via several European ports.
After evaluating multiple transport options, the team selected a multimodal solution combining ocean shipping, inland waterways, and road transport. In mid-February, the cargo departed from a Chinese port aboard Chipolbrok’s M/V Paderewski. After arriving at the Port of Antwerp, it was transferred by barge to Regensburg, Germany, and then transported by road to the project site in Austria. This approach minimized long-distance road transport while achieving the best balance of safety, efficiency, and cost.
Before the cargo arrived in Europe, the project team completed route surveys in Germany and Austria and coordinated transport arrangements with local partners and the project owner. After the shipment reached the Port of Antwerp, the team quickly resolved several operational challenges through close coordination with local authorities, ensuring all cargo was delivered safely and on schedule. The final shipment arrived at the construction site in Austria on July 6.
The successful completion of the project demonstrates Polbrok’s strong capabilities in managing oversized and heavy-lift logistics across Europe.Leveraging local expertise and an extensive regional network, Polbrok continues to provide reliable, efficient, and tailored logistics solutions for international infrastructure and industrial projects.
